Designing for Natural Light: A Façade Checklist
Avi Das· Jul 26, 2026
Good daylighting is one part orientation, one part glazing specification, and one part restraint. Here's the checklist our design team runs through on every façade brief.
Start with orientation
North-facing glazing (in the northern hemisphere) gives consistent, glare-free light for most of the day — ideal for living spaces and studios.
Choose glass for your climate, not just your view
Low-E and laminated glass options can cut solar heat gain significantly without sacrificing clarity — essential across most of India's climate zones.
Let the frame disappear
Slim aluminium sightlines mean more glass, less frame — but only if the structural engineering is done correctly for wind and seismic load.
Plan for maintenance access
The most beautiful façade is only as good as your ability to clean and service it. Discuss access early, not after installation.
