uPVC vs Aluminium Windows: Which Is Right For Your Home?
One of the first questions every homeowner asks us is simple: uPVC or aluminium? Both are engineered to outperform ordinary wood and steel windows on thermal insulation, acoustic silence and weather sealing — but they solve those problems in different ways.
Where aluminium wins
Aluminium profiles are inherently stronger per millimetre of frame, which is why architects reach for it on large-format sliding doors, telescopic openings and slim-sightline façades. If your project calls for expansive glazing with minimal visible frame, aluminium is usually the better structural choice.
Where uPVC wins
uPVC's multi-chambered profile is a natural insulator, which means better thermal performance and — for most homes — noticeably better sound dampening. For bedrooms facing a busy road, or homes in extreme climates, uPVC is often the quieter, more energy-efficient option.
Our recommendation
Many of our best projects actually mix both: aluminium for the wide, view-framing openings, and uPVC for bedrooms and quieter rooms. A site visit from our team will tell you exactly which system — or combination — suits your home.
